CCIKA was founded in 2002 by Sensei James
Carter. The primary function of CCIKA is the teaching of traditional
Shotokan Karate. Sensei Carter is a fourth degree black belt in Shotokan
Karate with many local, national, and a World Championship to his credentials.
In Portugal (2000), Sensei Carter became the first American Black Belt
to win a Gold Medal in Kumite (fighting) at the Wolrd Shotokan Championship
Karate Tournament.
Sensei Carter has created this combination
of martial arts and fitness to bring together a well rounded workout
that can be suited for everyone. He started the first CCIKA school at
the Berryessa Community Center in the city of San Jose, California,
in 2002. He has since then expanded CCIKA to more than ten community
centers, public schools, and private institutions throughout the bay
area. CCIKA also has affiliates in England and Sri Lanka.
The aim of CCIKA is to foster the growth
of legitimate karate; to foster a sound mind, a proper spirit, a sound
philosophy, and to improve the physical well-being of our members through
the art of Shotokan Karate.
